Course description:
Lonely Mountain is a course set at Akademirommet (Kunstnernes Hus) with the aim of making an exhibition based on a series of interrelated rules and frameworks devised by the group itself.
The timeline of the course means that the exhibition is developed Monday-Thursday, and the "exhibition" (or event) happens Thursday-Sunday. So attendance at every single session is compulsory.
Making a public exhibition with reduced time and a freshly assembled group is not an easy feat. This course, however, will turn this difficulty into its main asset. Not only will we find ways to make this exhibition happen, we will double up and make it even harder. This course is about making things as difficult as possible and seeing what comes out. For instance, one of the starting ideas will be to use none of the participants' previous work and to use as little physical material as possible...
However, this won't be all about chaos and despair! This will instead be about building frameworks for creative and collective work that keep us moving on, protect us from paralysis, and render something worthy of public view. No obstacle will be insurmountable!
The course will start with some reference points, from new complexity music scores (a form of scoring so complex that it can almost not be performed, but that renders a very special kind of performativity) to Fluxus instructions and situationism. I will bring the first outline of guidelines and frameworks, as well as a gamified system for us to develop the work. The rest will be up to the group...
Participants in this course will summon their most open-minded, patient, pro-active, and mystery-embracing selves. This will not be a showcase of individual practices but rather an experiment in turning struggle into opportunity in the most practical ways possible. Welcome!
The course title, Lonely Mountain, doesn't mean anything, but doesn't it sound nice?
See you!
