Academy of Contemporary Art and Creative Writing (UiT) in Tromsø is the host of the KUNO 2019 annual events.
All events take place at the Academy of Contemporary Art and Creative Writing, Grønnegata 1. Exception is the dinner on Friday, which will be held at Storgata Camping, right across form the academy.

Presentation by Hanne Hammer Stien - Associate Professor and Vice Director for Education and Artistic Research at the Academy of Contemporary Fine Art and Creative Writing, Tromsø.
When calls for professors at our academies nowadays are announced it is more likely that artists with a Ph.D. in artistic research or the equivalent are requested. The applicants are probably also asked to describe their plans for artistic research and more important, they must define how they will apply their artistic research into their teaching modes. What does it mean to teach based on artistic research? How does the change towards research based teaching affect our academies? What kind of expertise do we want our teachers to have? What do we want to teach our students? These are questions that will be discussed in this panel.

Title: International networks and collaborations from a Sami perspective
Bio: Hanna Horsberg Hansen is associate professor in art history and theory at the Academy of Arts in Tromsø. Hansen has conducted extensive research about Sámi art, exploring the frictions between art history as a Western, hierarchic, linear Eurocentric discipline and Sami art as something excluded from this history. Her research comprises historical, as well as contemporary art and the institutionalization of Sami art since the 1970's

Keynote 2: Robel Temesgen from Alle School of Fine Arts and Design, Addis Ababa University.
Title: Reflections on international aspects in arts education
Centering the conference theme, “internationalization” Robel Temesgens’ keynote speech will look into scarcity and abundance based on his journey of studying, research, production and exhibition throughout the years to question ‘how much of scarcity politics is adequate to making a career’.
In such a way, Robel walks through his projects, studio work and teaching position, by engaging the following questions:
How does internationalization understand privilege? Has it been created out of scarcity or abundance? When do these two concepts manifest?
In the Art Academy structures: where do scarcity and abundance situate? How does scarcity for specific vicinity become abundance elsewhere and what are the making elements?
Hopes: what are the institutional promises of access for student/emerging artists and how to maintain? Robel will discuss the questions above through his personal and institutional experiences as testimony.
Bio: (b.1987, Ethiopia) received MFA in Contemporary Art from Tromsø Academy of Contemporary Art and Creative Writing, University of Tromsø, Norway (2015) and a BFA in Painting from Alle School of Fine Arts and Design, Addis Ababa University (2010). His practice focuses on painting and encompasses elements of performance, installation, newspaper and collaborative projects. Temesgen’s works have been exhibited in numerous platforms internationally. Currently, he is based in Addis Ababa working between studio and lecturing at the Department of Painting, Alle School of Fine Arts and Design, Addis Ababa University.

13.30-15.00 GUIDED WALKING TOUR OF TROMSØ
The Tour includes stops at various sights and museums. After that there is the possibility to visit the Northern Norwegian Art Museum, which has an exhibit about Betzy Akersloot-Berg, one of the first nordic maritime explorer/painter women artists at the turn of the last century.
Saturday night is free for networking.
KUNO pays an extra night in the hotel for those staying until Sunday.
A list of nearby restaurants will be given to participants. It is important that you make a reservation early for your group.

The Tromsø airport is only 5 km from the city of Tromsø. Airport bus takes 10 min and costs 9€. Taxi costs approximately 24€, depending on the time of the day.

KUNO REIMBURSEMENT INFORMATION & SUPPORT
Kuno supports up to 3 participants to take part in the meeting: 1 coordinator, 1 teacher and 1 leader (dean/rector/head of department for network meeting). KUNO supports 3rd night for those choosing to stay in Helsinki until Sunday for the networking night.
What is reimbursed? Following the annual meeting, each participating school should send an invoice to KUNO for reimbursement of travel and hotel.
-Maximum refund for travel is 300 EUR pr. participant (except 600 from Iceland). As Tromsö is quite on the outskirts of the Nordic/Baltic region we will look into these reimbursement rates if needed.
-Maximum refund of hotel is 3 nights each for 3 participants, depending on their length of stay (check rule above on IRC, leader and teacher).
How to invoice: Following the KUNO events in Tromsø, your academy should send an invoice addressed to Iceland University of the Arts / KUNO, Thverholt 11, 105 Reykjavík, Iceland. It should preferably be sent by email: alma@lhi.is / Reference: “KUNO Tromsø” . The invoice should include names of participants and receipts of the purchased flight tickets and hotel. The invoice should be sent no later than end of Dec 2019.
! Note that transport to/from airport is not reimbursed.
